Did you know ?
CORTONA - TUSCANY
Legend:
According to legend, Dardanos, son of Jupiter, founded the city and named it Corito (“helmet”) after losing his helmet here in battle. From this very place, he set out to found Troy—linking Cortona to the saying “mother of Troy and grandmother of Rome.”
Etruscans:
Originally founded by the Etruscans, Cortona was one of the twelve lucumonies (Etruscan city-states). It held a strategic position and was protected by imposing 5th-century BC walls, many of which can still be seen today, along with important archaeological sites and the MAEC museum.
Romans:
Later, Cortona became a Roman municipium, known for its luxurious villas, such as the one in Ossaia.
Middle Ages – Free Commune:
After a period of decline, Cortona reemerged in the 12th century as a free and autonomous commune, with its own laws and mint. It experienced several conflicts with nearby Arezzo.
Religious Orders:
Major religious orders such as the Franciscans and Augustinians settled in Cortona. The convent of Sant’Agostino, mentioned as early as the 13th century, and the arrival of Saint Francis himself in 1211, bear witness to this.
Diocese:
In 1325, Pope John XXII established Cortona as a diocese to weaken the Ghibelline power of Arezzo.
Florentine Rule & Renaissance:
In 1409, exhausted by war, Cortona offered itself to King Ladislaus, who then sold it to Florence—thus ending its independence.
Artistic Flourishing:
Under Florentine rule, Cortona became both a strategic stronghold and a cultural center, hosting Beato Angelico and welcoming great artists like Luca Signorelli.
Zayna & Matt — A Three-Day Celebration in the Heart of Italy
Some weddings stay with you forever — and Zayna & Matt’s celebration is absolutely one of them.
From the first moment we met, it was clear: these two are pure joy. Genuine, warm, effortlessly fun, and with one shared mission in mind — make these three days unforgettable for everyone they love.
Day One — A Chic All-White Welcome Party
The festivities began at the beautiful EQUO Suites, where guests arrived for an elegant all-white soirée. It set the tone immediately: refined, joyful, stylish, and full of anticipation. A perfect beginning to what would become an extraordinary wedding weekend.
Day Two — The Wedding at Villa Valentini Bonaparte
And then… magic.
Zayna & Matt’s wedding took place at the breathtaking Villa Valentini Bonaparte, a venue that blends elegance, history, and luxury with effortless harmony. The kind of place that makes your heart stop for a second — and then beat faster.
For Zayna & Matt, being legally married in Italy was deeply meaningful, so choosing a venue that allowed a full civil ceremony was essential. Villa Valentini was the perfect match.
The wedding day began softly by the pool — a quiet contrast to how spectacularly the night would end.
Every element aligned beautifully: the ceremony full of emotion, the atmosphere warm and vibrant, and then… the party of all parties. Truly one of the biggest, wildest celebrations we’ve ever witnessed. Pure, infectious happiness from start to finish.
Day Three — The Farewell Pizza Party
On the final day, guests gathered once again — this time for a relaxed, sun-kissed pizza party. No one was ready to say goodbye. The laughter, the stories, the dancing… it all lingered in the air like a final gift from a magical weekend.
Three days. Endless memories. A celebration made not only of beauty and planning, but of heart — Zayna & Matt’s heart.
And that’s why we will remember this wedding forever.
